Sumiko

Explore Sumiko

The Sumiko subwoofers offer exceptional value. Sumiko used to distribute REL subwoofers and built the brand in the US over many years. When they lost REL, so that REL could sell it directly themselves, they designed a killer line of subs that offer great value for the money. We feel it outperforms the comparable REL subs for less money.

Models include:
S-10 500 watt 12" with 12" sub bass radiator and remote capability at $1699.00 December 2016 availability
S-9 350 watt 10" with 10" sub bass radiator at $999.00

S-5 150 watt 8" at $699.00
S-0
120 watt 6.5" at $499.00 (only 9.6" x 10.8" x 11")

The Sumiko S.9 ($999.00) utilizes an active-passive configuration; one 10-inch long throw drivers is controlled by the 350 watt amplifier, while the other, 10" passive driver reinforces the output of the active driver. This additional surface effectively doubles the air moving capacity of the design. The result is more dynamic, prodigious bass across the entire room while reaching over a half octave below the S.5. Both speaker level and subwoofer (line) level inputs are provided for both music & home theater operation simultaneously, and the controls let you dial in the subwoofer to blend perfectly into your system.

Some initial S9 review comments:

"The [Klipsch] R-115W delivered powerful, clean bottom end, but it wasn't blending perfectly with the Revels [Performa3 F206]; the mid and upper bass lacked punch and definition. I swapped in my big Hsu Research VTF-15H and, while the VTF-15H's extensive tuning capabilities let me get a better blend with the Revels, I wasn't quite satisfied. Then I tried substituting the S.9, and everything fell into place... If you like bass players - as opposed to just bass - this might be the best $1,000 you could spend on a two-channel system." - Brent Butterworth - July 2015

"I think I can sum up the overall design of Sumiko S.9 subwoofer in just one word: elegant... I felt like the guy in the old Maxell commercials as the wall of sound just slammed into me. However, it wasn’t just loud (and believe me, I cranked it up). The bass was incredibly tight and delineated... The two S.9s were able to recreate the deep bass effects of Interstellar (particularly the crash scene and shuttle launches) with just as much impact as my Hsu [VTF-3 MkII], but with increased levels of detail and improved frequency response... The S.9 is a product that can offer both the music and movie enthusiast something unique in the subwoofer market; raw power combined with incredible musicality... Overall, I was amazed at how much more lifelike the overall bass was." - Tyler Stripko - September 2015

The Sumiko S.10 ($1699.00) utilizes an active-passive configuration; one 12-inch long throw newly designed fiberglass sandwich honeycomb driver is controlled by the 500 watt amplifier with 1000 watt peak capability. The 12" fiberglass sandwich honeycombsub bass radiator driver reinforces the output of the active driver. This additional surface effectively doubles the air moving capacity of the design. The S.10 is powered by an ultra high current 500 watt, Class D amplifier. With a 1-kilowatt peaks, the S.10 can deliver striking dynamics with ease. An all-new 12-inch driver has been developed with fiberglass honeycomb sandwich construction, coupled to a 12-inch passive radiator of identical material. This allows the S.10 to reach the lowest frequencies with transient control that is simply not found elsewhere in passive radiator designs. The S.10 includes the wireless remote receiver which when used with the optional sending unit ($199.00) makes the system wireless in operation.
