The sonic benefits are quite dramatic. An entire level of low level grunge (hash) is removed from the sound. This improves the low level detail and imaging. The bass is now much tighter and controlled. Inner detail and transient attack are both greatly improved. The upgraded ZP 80, in the Cullen reference system streaming lossless ripped CDs over their 100 MBPS network, is now a true high end source. |
Our Sonos reclocker upgrade is now available. This upgrade completely replaces the mediocre Cirrus Logic CODAC and the associated high-jitter clocks used in the Sonos ZP80. The mod was designed to integrate the Sonos system into a high-end audio system thru an outboard digital-to-analog converter.
The mod was designed by Cullen Circuits in California and costs $550 + frt retrofitted or $890 + frt for a preinstalled machine.
The upgrade consists of installing a new custom Cullen Circuits designed PC board that contains:
- A high end sample rate converter made by TI
- A low jitter clock with less than .5ps jitter
- A low noise power supply for the clock
- A new micro processor
- Input & output digital buffers.
- New upgraded RCA output jacks are added.
This new custom board is installed into the Sonos and directly converts the I2S into 96k upsampled S/PDIF. This new ultra clean low jitter signal is now available thru both the Coax and optical digital outputs. The SPDIF output's sample rate can also be factory configured to 48k, 96K or 192k. |
